Walter Says:  “Setbacks Happen—So What?”

The knowing is one thing…it’s the doing that counts most………GP

Let me say something you don’t hear enough when you’re trying to change your life:

You’re gonna have a rough week.

Maybe even a few of them.

I don’t care how motivated you are, how good your routine is, or how strong your “why” is—life is still life. And sometimes, it throws a wrench in your plans.

I’ve had days where my back ached, my mood was off, and I didn’t feel like doing a single healthy thing. I’ve had a whole week where I ate too much, moved too little, and felt like I was slipping right back into the old Walter.

Before i tell you what I did.

You know what I didn’t do

I didn’t quit.

🧠 Why Setbacks Feel So Heavy

When you’re trying to turn your life around—especially later in life—every little slip can feel like failure.

You miss a walk, and you start thinking, “Here we go again.”

You eat something greasy, and suddenly you’re saying, “What’s the point?”

You skip your stretching, and then you avoid it the next day too, and then the next…

Before you know it, you’re sitting in silence, wondering if you’ve messed up everything.

Let me stop you right there:

A setback is not the end. It’s a pause—not a period.

💪🏽 How I Bounce Back

Here’s what I remind myself when I hit a wall:

1. One Bad Week Doesn’t Cancel Progress

I’ve been walking more, eating better, and feeling stronger for months now. One off week isn’t going to erase that. And neither will yours.

2. Progress Is Built on Consistency, Not Perfection

Read that again. You don’t need perfect weeks. You need to keep showing up, even after the messy ones.

3. The “Restart” Button Is Always There

Missed your routine? Okay. Start again today. Ate a little too much over the weekend? Fine. Drink water, eat something green, and go for a walk.

There’s always a next choice.

❤️ You’re Not Alone

I need you to hear this:

• You’re not the only one who struggles.

• You’re not the only one who has doubts.

• You’re not the only one who feels discouraged sometimes.

But you are the one in charge of how you respond.

You’ve got people rooting for you. I’m one of them.

And I want you to know: this is normal. It’s part of the process. Don’t let a tough stretch talk you out of your transformation.

🔁 What I Do After a Bad Week

• I move my body, even if it’s just 5 minutes.

• I drink water like I’m cleaning out the past.

• I eat one good meal—something warm, real, and full of fiber.

• I go outside, breathe, and remember why I started.

• I read my old journal entries or revisit my goals.

• I picture that hill—the one I plan to climb with two grandbabies in my arms.

And just like that, the fog starts to lift.

📣 Final Thought

You’re gonna stumble. You’re gonna miss a step. That’s not failure—that’s being human.

Just don’t stay down. Don’t turn a slip into a spiral.

Get up. Move again. Make the next meal count. Stretch. Walk. Breathe.

You’ve got this.

I’m Walter. I’ve had bad weeks. I’ve eaten the cookies. I’ve skipped the walks. But I’ve learned to get back up, and you can too.

And remember—

I’m not a doctor, and I don’t play one on TV. Always check with your physician before making health changes.
